Frequently Asked Questions

How do I reserve my puppy?

Puppy Reservations are made by filling out our puppy questionnaire and deposit contract then by a $500 payment that is non-refundable but transferable to future litters.

After your reservation is confirmed…

I will notify you and your family as your litter is planned, as soon as the puppies are whelped and we will send weekly photo updates of the puppies as they grow and until they are in their new homes.

Once a specific litter reservation list is full, additional future owners will be added to a general reservation list which will not have a specific litter or timeline but will give the opportunity to hold a spot for a puppy.

How and when do I pick my puppy?

Puppy picking will take place generally around 6 weeks of age. Picks can be made in person, by video clip, by photo, by Facetime or by Breeder’s Suggestion where we can match the puppy to your family based on your desires and lifestyle.

Certain litters that we desire a show prospect from will be delayed in picking until homecoming day at 8 weeks of age. We as the breeder always reserve the right to first pick male or female regardless of the reservation list, however we do our best to avoid moving clients down by making an expectation of keeping a prospect puppy prior to the creation of the reservation list.

Are our Labradors English or Field style or Both?

At Limestone Labradors, our dogs are versatile, both in size and attitude. The weights of the dogs accepted into our program range from 55-85lbs. our dogs are not oversized. I also strive to produce neither a field looking Labrador nor a true English Labrador. We love the middle road, a beautiful and smart dog that will always be a natural retriever with fabulous drive but won’t be hyperactive or a bump on a log.

Our program dogs and our puppies we produce are active participants in our family life and their new owner’s families they lead a life of bringing joy to those we encounter. They go walking, eventually do some jogging, hunt during the season, sleep with our children, are friendly and social towards other animals and humans, go to sports games, are therapy animals, participate in Search and Rescue, etc.

Is my puppy guaranteed to be white or light yellow?

In short, No. We do not breed our Labradors strictly for color, so much more goes into the decisions that create a pairing. We are making the best judgement based upon health testing, pedigrees, temperaments, complimentary structures, retrieving drive and ability, and then finally what color they are among other factors.

We love the white, yellow and red pups we have because we know that regardless of the shade of yellow they are they are the highest quality throughout and that is what matters most.

What does pre-housebroken mean?

Starting as soon as our puppies are old enough to maneuver around the whelping area we introduce a potty area. The puppies will naturally be driven to urinate and defecate away from the area that they sleep and play in and by giving them the opportunity to have the designated space they quickly learn where is acceptable.

Around 4-5 weeks old the puppies will begin using small stairs and the doggy door, they will be fed and watered outside and potty immediately afterwards in the designated outdoor potty area.

By the time your puppy comes home they will be reliably going outside to potty without having accidents inside, they will still need to go out every couple of hours for the first couple weeks at home but they will know when and where to go, it will just be up to you to make sure they get out there.

How does the microchip enrollment work?

We microchip the puppies around 5-6 weeks of age to give us a reliable ability to identify each one.

When you pick up your puppy you will fill out an information form. That information will be placed on the AKC Reunite database by us. Our contact information will be placed as an alternate on your puppy’s profile, we will never contribute to the shelter pet population and proper pet identification and contact information is number one priority to making that happen.

AKC Registration, How does it work with us?

Each of our litters are registered with the American Kennel Club one week after birth. We also pay for the individual puppy registrations at that time. Your information will be sent to AKC’s database after you pick up your puppy, shortly afterwards you will receive your pup’s new registration certificate in the mail.

All of Limestone Labradors puppies are sold with Limited AKC Registration, or in other words with no breeding rights and a contract requiring proof of spay or neuter between 24-26 months of age.

If bettering the breed is something you wish to do please visit with me further about how to acquire AKC/UKC titles on your pup.
